Ojas-Building Drink (Vegetarian/Gluten Free)
OJAS-BUILDING DRINK (Vegetarian/Gluten Free)
My friends, perimenopause is the real deal, and I am going through it! YES, it’s been a few years now and it was big mystery until I put all the pieces together and I am so glad I did because now I can feel empowered during this next phase of life. One thing I have learned is that all women go through perimenoupse and menopause VERY differently, so there is not a one size fits all model. This can make it very challenging to find out what might work best for you, but don’t give up, YOUR answers are here, I promise. Talk to other women who may share wisdom around this and talk with your doctor. And finally, READ, READ, and READ some more about this time of transition and empowerment!
This recipe has had a huge impact on my body and my energy level so I wanted to share it with you. Maybe you are experiencing perimenopause symptoms like me, or you are just experiencing burnout, whatever your reason, this drink works! At least it did for me (I am going on day 28 of drinking it before bed and I am feeling great!).
According to Ayurveda, “chronic or excessive stress would deplete a precious substance in the body called ojas. Ojas is said to be the physiological expression of consciousness, in charge of immunity, reproduction, beauty, and the overall health and well-being of the individual.
Ojas takes 30 days to be manufactured in the body, and is the result of numerous enzymatic actions that start with the digesting of food into the body’s lymph, blood, muscle, fat, bone, nerve and reproductive tissues. Once these tissues are successfully made and deemed healthy by the body, the final product, or essence, ojas is produced.
When ojas is depleted, either from stress, lack of sleep, bad food, poor digestion, excessive activity or inactivity, the body breaks down fast. Folks with depleted ojas are exhausted, can’t sleep, have no sexual desire, have dry wrinkled skin, stiff joints and accelerated aging, and are pre-disposed to disease.”
Recipe (makes 2 servings):
2 cups almond mylk plain (or make your own almond mylk)
4-6 chopped medjool dates (no pits)
1 Tbsp edible organic rose petals (dried or fresh)
1 tsp organic ghee
Pinch of saffron
1/8 tsp ground cardamom
1/4 tsp of ginger powder
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp ashwaganda
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 Tbsp raw honey
*Try vanilla extract if you do not have rose petals and try coconut oil in place of ghee if you can’t eat ghee.
Add all ingredients into a Vitamix or high speed blender. Start slow as the dates take a while to mix. Blend for 2–3 minutes or until smooth and frothy. You should see a golden rose color. Transfer to a pot and warm on the stove.
Drink 2-3 times a week or every night before bed. Feel free to play with this recipe and make it your own!
"Enjoy life, it's delicious!
