The Center for Studies of Values and Culture in Beijing Normal University was established in January 2000 and approved as the KEY RESEARCH INSTITUTE IN UNIVERSITY of Humanities and social sciences by the Ministry of Education in November at the same year. The institute covers two first-level disciplines of Beijing Normal University, Philosophy and Marxism, among which Marxist Philosophy has been approved as state key national discipline since January 2002. 继续了解

Under the background of economic globalization, value pluralism and cultural diversity, the aim of the center is to analyze value and cultural phenomena with a scientific attitude, grasp the current situation and changing trend of social values, actively explore the internal mechanism of the formation, dissemination, conflict and change of popular culture, and provide theoretical guidance and advisory services for value education and cultural construction. 对照阅读

Since our establishment, we has always attached great importance to responding to the great practice of China's reform and opening-up from the perspective of value and culture. We have planed and organized nearly 30 major research topics, such as "the history of Chinese traditional values dating", "the change of value cultural order since modern times", "the change of Chinese social values since the reform and opening up", "the change of Chinese dominant values under the background of cultural conflict" and "the change of Western values".

We have held a series of international academic conferences such as "Values in a Changing World", "Philosophy of Value and Process", "Values in East Asia".Thus formed the "Theory and Practice of Values: Thoughts on Several Issues of Values", "Traces of Thinking: Ideological Formation in Cultural Collision", "Individual Freedom and Life History", "Values of the Communist Party of China in the New Century", "Reconstructing Modernity: Research on Contemporary Socialist Values", "Diversification of Values in the Process of Globalization","On the History of the Change of Values in Qin and Han Dynasties”"Socialist Core Values: Theory and Method" and many other landmark achievements.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the center focused on the major theoretical and practical issues of socialist core values, and jointly tackled key issues and promoted them in such aspects as the basic theory of values, the theoretical logic and practical identification of socialist core values, the creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese excellent traditional culture, and the construction of the platform for collecting and analyzing large data of socialist core values. Create an open and high-level innovation team with reasonable structure and complementary advantages of discipline resources.

At the same time, relying on the joint tackling of major issues, we should establish a stable mechanism for international cooperation and exchange, actively expand cooperation with world-class universities, and enhance the level of international development of the center. Actively relying on the construction of the database resources, we will improve the quality of the publications of "Research on Contemporary Chinese Values" and "Frontier of Philosophy in China" (English Journal), and establish a systematic, comprehensive and multi-faceted platform for value research and communication.
